How can you reconnect to nature?

How can you reconnect to nature?

How can you reconnect to nature?

Emerson wrote:  "In nature the individual is restored to senses, his thoughts become clear and all limitation associated with his personality is removed when, by entering nature, the individual experiences his finite world transformed into a site of infinite possibility, not only for himself but for all humankind."

Our human society has chosen urban environments as the preferred living space for human beings.  Yet we need to realize that cities are part of nature too.  And that there is nothing wrong with cities except that our cities are out of balance with the planet.  There is nothing wrong with business or industry either – except that right now it is out of balance. To have a future, we need to correct that imbalance.  We can all help correct this.

We can help you reconnect to nature.  We can help you reconnect even to the community of life in your apartment or row house.  You will then discover that when you reconnect to nature you will feel in tune with yourself and can think about helping your community.  Helping your community is natural, not something you learn.

Once you reconnect with nature then the learning you do in human society can build on this foundation.

However tenuous our connections may appear on the surface, this does not change the fact that the world is woven of the profound bonds and connections of one life to another with the whole community of life. It is this that makes it possible for us to take the kind of action that will generate ripples of positive impact across the full spectrum of our connections.

Perhaps no one expressed this more aptly than Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (1929-68) as he struggled for the cause of human dignity:

“We are all caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied into a single garment of destiny. . . . We are made to live together. . . .
